Dwelling Place

If you’ve ever had a sense within your soul that something was missing – in a relationship, in a solution or project you were working on, in a thought process? You can’t quite put your finger on it Sometimes you can even try to fill in the missing with futility – bad habits that feel good (at first), good and noble deeds, busy days. I encourage you to search the Word to find what’s missing. You’ll realize in the search that the healing it brings will fill in the gaping hole in your soul.

This poem is my testimony of how the Lord has shown me one more missing link in my walk with Him. Perhaps you have found it too! The Word – it’s quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb. 4:12 NIV).

Dwelling Place

I can’t remember what day it was

when I opened up His Word,

And realized there was so much more

than what I’d ever heard.

A Christian from my childhood, and now a mother too,

God had been faithful, still I didn’t have a clue.

The first Bible, my parents placed it in my hands,

Two more I’d bought with hopes to better understand.

One was for the car, one was for the church bench,

The other? Just in case I needed to use it in a pinch.

I never understood why Mom loved to read His word.

I’d see her every morning and think,

“She must be really bored.”

Now, things are different, but His word hasn’t changed.

Somewhere along the way, my thoughts were rearranged.

See I’ve become an addict, I’m ready to admit.

In this path called life, His word – it is my fix.

Sometimes I let things go I think need my attention,

Because I get so engrossed in His God-sized intentions.

Then I stop and thank this great big God of mine,

“Surely Lord, again today, please redeem the time!”

You see, He’s given me a hunger and nothing else will do.

His Word is breath to me, it’s life, it’s power too.

It’s richer fare than you’ve ever had before

And will leave you, after tasting, only wanting more.

It’s changed the way I see myself, the way I look at life.

He’s changing the way I am, the friend, mother, wife.

It’s changed the way I choose to live,

He’s changing my life.

I wonder if I’ll have the time before He calls me to depart,

To tell everyone one I can

just what His words mean to my heart.

Here’s a great offer, a lifetime guarantee –

Read His Word, ask Him to show you all there is to see.

His Spirit dwelling within you will shine a searching light

Revealing mysteries and wonders,

bringing bright light to the darkness of night.

The Word become flesh and dwelt among us –

the strangest thing to see.

And so amazing still –

His Word now is dwelling deep inside of me!
